There isn’t much that can be said about nelson Mandela that everybody in the world doesn’t know already. For most of his life He has worked tirelessly to ensure freedom for not just black majority in south africa, but for all races. He has endured many things in his quest for peace, including being put on trial and going to jail multiple times. He is well known in his country as a hero who strived for peace. His fight eventually led him to becoming the first democratically elected president of South Africa. His legacy of courage, leadership, and bravery lives on in the people of South Africa forever. Nelson Mandela was born Rolihlahla Mandela into the Madiba clan in Mvezo, Transkei, on July 18th, 1918. His mother was Nonqaphi Nosekeni and his father was Nkosi Mphakanyiswa Gadla Mandela, principal counsellor to the Acting King of the Thembu people, Jongintaba Dalindyebo. In 1930, when he was 12 years old, his father died and the young Rolihlahla became a ward of Jonginta ba at the Great Place in Mqhekezweni. While he was young he dreamed of making a contribution to the struggle for freedom of his people after hearing the elders’ stories of his ancestors’ valour during the wars of resistance. He was given the name nelson in primary school by his teacher in accordance with the custom to give all children Christian names. During his lifetime he acquired a bachelor’s degree in arts and laws. Over the course of his life he has had 3 wives.
